Educational Therapy
Dr. Gates has attained the highest level of board certification
as an Educational Therapist. Educational therapy combines specialized
teaching and therapeutic approaches and, when appropriate, case
management and consultation on behalf of the client. Educational
therapists have training in alternative teaching methods that
are effective with particular learning disabilities or problems.
Educational therapists are trained in formal and informal assessment
and in the synthesis of information from other professionals
and parents. Emotional and social issues that may be connected
with learning are addressed in a comfortable, safe, often humor-filled
teaching/learning relationship. When appropriate, the educational
therapist collaborates with other professionals, such psychologists,
neurologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists,
developmental optometrists, and school personnel.
