| EVALUATION AND TESTING
Why Test?
Educational testing always begins with a question to be answered.
Testing may be used to answer questions about the present status
of the individual’s cognitive (thinking) strengths and
weaknesses. It may be used to identify the presence or strength
of a specific skill. It may identify the most effective teaching
methods for a particular individual. Testing is most useful when
the results can be used to guide instruction. Test results can
enable a teacher to build on strengths while addressing weaknesses.
Through careful, thorough consultation, Dr. Gates helps individuals
clarify their concerns. She takes a complete history of the individual
and family. She then develops an appropriate test battery that
provides comprehensive answers in an efficient manner. The time
and amount of testing depend on the questions to be answered
and the age of the client. She never tests more than is needed
but always enough to answer the questions that are posed.

Results
Clients receive complete, written reports as well as in-depth
consultations to ensure the data and implications of the data
are understood. When requested, Dr. Gates will consult with other
professionals working with the student to ensure each has the
benefit of the results and to help formulate a coordinated teaching
plan.
"My husband and I recommend Dale Gates to any
parent who has concerns about their child’s learning.
We were worried that our daughter wasn’t learning as
rapidly as she should be. Dr. Gates pinpointed the problem
and then worked with Kylie’s
teachers to make sure they understood how Kylie learns. This
has been the best school year yet." (M.
